A well-established Management Consulting Company focused on the Energy, Industrials and Private Equity sectors seeks a General Manager to manage all aspects of the day-to-day operations, drive new business opportunities across the UK and North West Europe and lead consulting projects spanning the Company’s service offerings. Applicants are invited with a strong background in consultancy management services and the ambition and capability to build on current market reputation and drive new business opportunities. With offices in central London, ideally you will be based in a commutable region. The current head of Europe & Middle East, based in London, plans to return to the Company’s US office to take on a new role in early Q4/2022. It is hoped there would be some overlap. The role offers great scope and autonomy to deliver growth expectations and reap high financial rewards.

With offices in the US, Middle East and the UK, this Management Consultancy has for the last 30 years, advised companies through transformation and complex change. The energy sector remains the company’s largest business segment. However, it has expanded across other industrials, including discrete manufacturing, logistics, mining and chemicals. The company has leveraged its relationships with global private equity firms to accelerate its growth in new sectors. They have a strong team of expert consultants, many of whom have deep roots across the energy sector. Their consultancy approach is highly successful, resulting in projects globally, tight partnerships with clients and a great deal of ongoing and referral business. Their focus on understanding all aspects of their client’s business, operations, and challenges is key to their delivery of effective implementations, better results and value that lasts. As partners, they listen, challenge and deliver meaningful sustainable change that delivers greatly improved business.
The Company has five well established service offerings that cut across all regions. Each service offering has a senior level leader assigned to it. With experience in driving or delivering management consultancy services, you will manage and drive business activities across all service offerings and sectors. You will be given a great deal of scope and autonomy to define and implement business strategies that will deliver the target revenue growth and market penetration. You will be supported by the Company’s Management Team, who you will work closely with.

The Company operates a matrix organisation, has a friendly and transparent culture with a focus on empowerment and sharing of knowledge. They have an established Team of subject matter experts and associated consultants that they can avail of as required.
Reporting to the President, your primary responsibilities will be to:
● Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the UK and NW Europe business.
● Responsible for the P&L of the practice.
● Work closely with the Business Development Team to:
⮚ Establish and forge new relationships with potential clients.
⮚ Determine potential clients’ cneeds and opportunities.
⮚ Develop and implement strategic business plans to achieve market penetration and revenue targets.
⮚ Build strong working relationships with key players. Develop, maintain and execute account plans.
⮚ Identify opportunities and partner with Business Development to pursue them.
● Focus will be on the UK and North West Europe marketplace but remit can be extended for the right opportunities.
● Be responsible for all consultancy project delivery:
⮚ Ensure that all aspects of the “Contract for Services” are well defined and agreed.
⮚ Assist with project staffing, which will utilize the company’s London-based resources, resources flown in from the United States, and/or new personnel (hired or contracted) .
⮚ Set KPI’s and monitor and strive for high levels of customer satisfaction levels and endorsements.
⮚ Oversee all aspects of the project deliverables.
⮚ Aim for billable rates of 70-80% (negotiable as business grows).
⮚ Strive for repeat and referral business.
● Provide guidance, mentoring and coaching to London-based team members and project consultants, as appropriate.
● Inform and coordinate with Internal Operations to address resource/capability gaps for target sectors.
● Work with marketing to raise the recognition and reputation of the Company in the region.
● Be proactive in events e.g., conferences, forums, debates – ensure the Company is perceived as a key player in target sectors.
● Work closely with the head of Europe & Middle East, other General Managers (e.g., Middle East) and service offering leads to improve service offerings, share resources and drive revenue growth.
The successful candidate will have:
● A strong background in management consulting is essential. 15+ years preferred.
● A background in the Energy Sector is preferred (either as a consultant or in industry) – this could be in Oil and Gas, Renewable Energy or Low Carbon Solutions. Applicants with backgrounds in other industrial sectors such as mining or chemicals are welcome to apply.
● Experience in consultancy projects relating to corporate strategy, performance improvement and business transformation, digital transformation, energy transition and organizational change highly desired.
● Entrepreneurial essential – ability to manage a P&L, drive business opportunities, lead the team, and manage all day-to-day activities.
● Strong appreciation of effective Service Delivery essential - strive to continually improve and achieve a high degree of customer satisfaction and repeat business.
● Highly commercial - Keen eye on driving revenue, profit margins, setting and managing financial targets and reporting.
● Proven experience of driving new business opportunities in consulting essential.
● Strong client facing expertise essential. The ability to engage, listen, comprehend and propose coherent solutions to senior-level executives.
● Strong Project Management expertise essential.
● Deep experience in problem-solving complex business issues that supports ~50% billability on client engagements, with remaining time spent leading the business and driving new revenue.
● Drive to build teams of excellence – good leadership and motivational skills ensuring players are constantly upskilling.
● A passion for this new digital age essential
● A strong team player who can also work well across a matrix organisation essential.
● Can work closely with the Management Teams across the Company to drive improvements and revenue growth across all service offerings and sectors.
● Excellent communication skills essential – you will interact with executive level players across the client and potential client base.
● Excellent presentation skills – you will devise and present high level wining consultancy proposals to key players.
● Be actively involved in industry events essential – e.g. speaking at conference, debates, forums or writing articles for publications.
● A respectfully assertive individual essential with the personality and confidence to build strong relationships.
● A creative and innovative problem solver - thinks conceptually and ‘out of the box’.
● High proficiency in Microsoft Office products specifically: Outlook, PowerPoint, Word essential. Experience in MS Teams desired.
● Can travel as required.
