Learn how current industry changes will impact our geoscientists!

5-6 September 2018,

Renaissance Koepelkerk Centre Amsterdam, Netherlands

Working Smart is pleased to be sponsoring and attending this Conference

The world is changing, and the energy industry is changing with it. What impact will this have on geoscience and geoscientists? In an innovative initiative, the American Association of Petroleum Geoscientists (AAPG) is organising an Energy Transition Forum, 5-6 September 2018, at the Koepelkerk Conference Centre, Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The Forum will engage key stakeholders in discussions about lower-carbon technologies, new skillsets and new mind-sets to carry the industry through the energy transition, and to determine where geoscientists fit in the mix. How do veteran and rookie industry professionals adapt to this new world?

Chaired by Max Brouwers, VP Europe, Russia and Caspian for Shell, the AAPG Forum will highlight the high level challenges and seek answers to the questions people across the industry are struggling with. A diverse programme committee has recruited high-level speakers to address the themes of the Future of Energy, Sustainability, Digitalisation, and Skills and New Ways of Working. Speakers include:
  • Rana Adib, Executive Secretary of REN21
  • Ivo Bozon, Director, Global Energy, McKinsey and Company
  • Marit Brommer, Executive Director, International Geothermal Association
  • Lindy Elkins-Tanton, Director of Earth & Space Exploration at Arizona University and Leader of the NASA Psyche Mission
  • Christiana Figueres – a world authority on global climate change; Executive Secretary of the UNFCC from 2010-2016
  • Kahina Abdeli-Galinier, Schlumberger
  • Mark Killien, External Relations Advisor, Digital Businesses, Exploration and New Business, Shell
  • Lucia van Geuns – Strategic Advisor Energy at The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies
  • Ashild Larsen, CIO and Senior Vice President Corporate IT, Equinor
  • Luq Niaizi, Global Managing Director, IBM Chemicals and Petroleum Industries
  • Julien Perez, Strategy and Policy Director, OGCI Climate Investments
  • Lisa Rebora, Head of Sustainability and Strategy for Equinor’s exploration portfolio

Sessions have been structured to provide thought-provoking presentations that will prepare the audience for interactive breakout sessions utilising a variety of facilitation styles to maximise engagement. The intent is to capture the discussions, including those in the various breakout groups, in order to produce a relevant and interesting document for wide industry distribution.

Over the two-day schedule, Forum participants will learn:
  • How new technologies, policies and employer/customer expectations are changing the profession, but also creating new opportunities for you and your company/business.
  • How the industry is redefining what geoscientists are – and what we do.
  • How to anticipate the pace of change to effectively train and engage a new workforce.
  • How you can recognize and harness disruption to reposition your company and your skills to adapt to an ever-changing future.

Plus, see and experience IBM’s Design Thinking process in action.

In a recent interview, Max Brouwers says “People with varied backgrounds will have different pieces of the puzzle which, when brought together by this forum, will get us closer to answering the question ‘what does the energy transition really mean for us and how should we prepare for it?’ We can shape and form this dialogue and prepare ourselves for the energy transition; that is what I really hope this forum will deliver.”
