A major global engineering and design service provider seeks a Lead Piping Engineer to be responsible for safe, technically accurate, and cost effective piping system designs and deliverables for offshore installations and facilities. You may be assigned as a Discipline Technical Authority (DTA) or as a Subject Matter Expert (SME). Applicants invited with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in Piping Engineering in the oil/gas, hydrocarbon offshore industry. You should be recognized as a specialist in a specific engineering field on large to mega offshore projects. Working on a Tax Free, Expat residential permanent role, you will be exposed to a great opportunity to develop your specific expertise working across various stakeholders on high value projects. This role is offered in adherence with Saudi Labour Law and therefore these positions are only open to Males and under the age of 58.

The Company employs 5000+ people and formed in 2009 from the integration of two of the Kingdom’s engineering companies. They provide engineering, project management, procurement and construction management solutions for Oil/Gas, Pipelines, Healthcare, Waste and Wastewater, Petrochemical etc.

Al-Khobar is a large city located in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the coast of the Persian Gulf and is linked to Bahrain via the causeway.

This is a residential permanent position (i.e. not rotational) and the Company provides 22 – 28 days holiday (depending on grade) plus you are entitled to all of the Saudi Public holidays (circa 10 - 14 days). The Company will provide accommodation for single or family status in a secure compound. They will organise all mobilisation / demobilisation transport and you will be entitled to 2 flights home per year.

Due to visa restrictions within Saudi, there is a preference for American, Canadian and British nationals.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Piping Head of Department/Project Manager, or Project Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • The safe, technically accurate, and cost effective piping system designs and deliverables for offshore installations and facilities.
  • Compliance with applicable specifications and standards, and completion of work within project budget and schedule. For larger projects, this is typically accomplished by a combination of supervising and directing a Piping Engineering Team and also directly performing tasks as required. These tasks may include Piping Stress Analysis, support design, special support design, spring support design, and design of expansion joints.
  • Coordinating both your Engineering and Design teams and be familiar with the workings of the 3D CAD model software being used on the project.
  • Being the final arbiter in space management of the 3D CAD model.
  • Preparing and reviewing engineering studies, design drawings and documents, material and equipment specifications and datasheets.
  • Resolving specialty related engineering issues by applying accepted principles, codes, and standards.
  • Becoming competent in producing man-hour estimates for new work and change-orders together with Piping scheduling in conjunction with the project Planner.
  • Having an understanding of the project scope of work, budget, and schedule, particularly as it applies to Piping Engineering and Design. Manage scope changes, both additions and deletions.
  • Performing and/or overseeing all Piping Stress Analysis, assuring compliance with all applicable codes pertaining to piping systems and strain sensitive equipment.
  • Overseeing the work of other Piping Engineering personnel. Provide direction and guidance to the Piping Engineering Team.
  • Preparing man hour estimates for all Piping Engineering activities.
  • Scheduling, tracking and forecasting Piping Engineering activities.
  • Managing man-hour expenditures for Piping Engineering.
  • Producing required project reporting for Piping Engineering.
  • Ensuring coordination with other in-house engineering departments.
  • Developing and maintaining a list of lines to be stress analyzed.
  • Developing and maintaining valve list, spring support list, piping special items listing, etc.
  • Performing wall thickness and branch reinforcing calculations.
  • Preparing requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and supplier document review for all Piping materials and valves.
  • Performing a thorough review of relevant vendor documentation information for not only the Piping group, but review of all other Disciplines’ relevant Vendor Data.
  • Providing a timely internal check of drawings produced by other MHDP disciplines.
  • Incorporating MHDP procedures and standards into design as applicable.
  • Keeping abreast of emerging trends and technologies within your relevant field
Preferences: The successful candidate will have
  • Full time degree (no long distance learning degrees) in Engineering essential.
  • Corporate Member of a recognized Mechanical chartered professional body highly desired.
  • A minimum of 15 years’ Piping Engineering or related industry xperience essential.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASME, ASTM, ANSI, API, etc.) essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office software (Word and Excel) and Company purchased and in house created software. Should also be familiar with editing, opening and reading drawings in Microstation and working with SP3D 3D CAD system on projects essential.
  • Previous experience working in Saudi or the Middle East advantageous.
  • Ability to make independent decisions in the planning, organizing and coordination of solutions to complex problems.
  • Competent with the ability to lead a team of discipline engineers and provide engineering support.
  • Enthusiasm and drive to stay abreast of new trends and technologies in your field.
  • Proactive, flexible and dedicated team player, able to achieve goals.
  • Enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team essential.
  • Excellent communication skills in English with the ability to engage and work effectively with team players from various cultures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop good working relationships
  • Valid driving license of Saudi or country of origin highly advantageous.
  • Ability and willingness to travel offshore to make inspections and to undertake surveys.
  • Ability to lift and carry things whilst offshore
Other Information
Package: A highly attractive Tax Free salary is on offer dependent on skills and experience.
